The story behind Karani

From the heart of Nyeri, one of Kenya’s most iconic regions, comes this unique lot processed at the Ndurutu washing station under the supervision of Joel Kariuki and his team at the Rutuma Cooperative.

Operating since 1999, the station brings together the production of over 500 small local coffee growers. At altitudes above 1,700 meters above sea level and on nutrient-rich volcanic soils, the traditional Kenyan varieties flourish: SL 28, SL 34, and Ruiru 11.

Karani coffee is distinguished by its natural process using the “Sleeping Bag” technique — a careful open-air drying method that preserves the aromatic richness of the bean.

In the cup, it offers a vibrant and elegant experience: notes of red cherry, kiwi, mandarin, and white chocolate, with a sweet, creamy finish reminiscent of biscuit. An expressive and refined coffee, perfect for lovers of characterful filter brews.
